How to find replacement for obsolete electronic components/parts

Every now and then, an electronics component will go obsolete. This can happen when a factory sells the machine making the part, injection molds are discarded or they just decide that the part isn’t worth making or stocking. This screen recording shows the typical way to find a replacement part.

In this case, there are several options available. In other cases, you’ll find that there are no alternate parts. In that case, relax the search criteria as much as possible. If that also fails, you’ll just have to think differently and come up with a new part. In this case, it’s for a board to board connector. That usually means that changing the cable at one end also requires a redesign at the other end so part obsolecence can be costly in electronics.
